Cut-edge corrosion and tired cladding
Profiled steel sheets are cut to length during installation, and those cut edges are often the least protected part of the panel. On many older industrial buildings rust begins there, at laps and along the bottom of sheets, and the coating gradually lifts back from it. Fading, chalking and staining add to the look of decline even when the panels themselves are sound.
