What IRATA rope access means

IRATA (the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) sets the training, certification and working standards for industrial rope access. Technicians work on two independent ropes, a working line and a safety line, under the supervision of a Level 3. Every job has a method statement, risk assessment and rescue plan before anyone leaves the ground.

Rope access vs scaffolding

Scaffold is the right choice for long programmes of heavy work across a whole elevation. For targeted inspections, repairs and maintenance, rope access is usually faster to mobilise, needs no ties into the building, leaves pavements and entrances open and avoids hire periods. We will tell you honestly when scaffold or a platform is the better option.

Questions customers ask before booking.

Is rope access safe?

Yes. IRATA rope access has a strong safety record because every technician works on two independent ropes, is trained and assessed to a set standard and is supervised by a Level 3 with a rescue plan in place.

Is rope access cheaper than scaffolding?

For targeted inspections, repairs and maintenance it is often cheaper and quicker, because there is no scaffold hire, erection or pavement licence. For heavy, long-running work across a whole elevation, scaffold can be better value, and we will say so.

What does a rope access inspection include?

A technician gets close to the facade, roof or structure, records its condition with photos and notes, and flags defects such as cracking, failed sealant, loose materials or water ingress points. It can feed into a survey, insurance claim or repair plan.

We are based in the North East and work across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Teesside and the wider region. We can travel further for suitable commercial and industrial projects.
